Visiting the Study Centre

The centre is open Monday - Thursday throughout UoY and YSJ semesters. Making use of the study centre is really simple. You don’t have to sign up or reserve a space - just turn up, find a desk, and get to work. The only thing we ask is that you sign in and out (there’s a clipboard in the main study room) so that we know who’s in the building in case of emergencies. You don’t even have to be a member of a particular church to join the centre: Saviourgate is open to all students who are willing to engage with our Christian ethos.

Three ways to support Saviourgate’s work

Even if you aren’t in York, there are loads of ways that alumni, parents, supporters and friends of the centre can partner with us in creating an intellectual home for Christian students in York. Here are three key ways in which you can support Saviourgate, wherever you are in the world:

  • We firmly believe that the study centre ministry here in York is an important and timely one, but as Christians, we’re also acutely conscious that ‘unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain’ (Psalm 127)—and we’d therefore really value your prayers, both for the day-to-day life of the centre (i.e. that students would engage positively, and that all of our conversations would honour God and point faithfully to Him) and for wisdom for our steering group as they seek to guide the centre longer term. You can sign up to receive quarterly updates with study centre news and specific prayer points - just click here and scroll down to the sign-up section.

  • If you’re based in and around York, there are loads of ways you can support us practically, even if it’s just building the occasional bookshelf: we'd love to hear from you! And wherever you are in the world, we’re also very open to donations of books and other resources, whether theological or academic. (Academic books needn’t be explicitly Christian, so long as they’re likely to be of value to students in their studies). If you’d like to support us with your time or resources, or if you have advice or suggestions, please do get in touch with us at studycentre@saviourgate.org

  • As things stand, the main limitation on the work of the study centre is financial: there's plenty that we’d like to be able to do for students, but can’t on our limited budget. If you think you might be able to support this ministry through a one-off gift or regular donation, we’d love to hear from you: please email us at study.centre@trinitychurchyork.org.uk, or visit our giving page for more information.
